Product Environmental Declarations
A step forward in ecological strategy
ENVIRONMENTAL DECLARATIONS
Environmental declaration – what is it and who needs it?
Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are documents that provide detailed, comparable, and verified information on a product’s environmental impact throughout part or all of its life cycle. In the case of construction materials, EPDs are particularly important, as the construction industry is one of the largest consumers of natural resources and a relatively large emitter of greenhouse gases.
Thanks to EPD certification , companies can better manage their resources and minimize the negative impact of products on the environment.
This is an essential tool for companies striving for sustainable development, as it enables transparency and comparability of environmental data. With EPD certification, companies can better manage their resources and minimize their negative environmental impact.
We offer EPD declarations for precast concrete elements, insulation systems, construction chemicals, steel structures, sandwich panels, and other construction products.
BENEFITS
Environmental Product Declaration EPD - what are its benefits?
The benefits of having an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) are many, including:
-
Increasing competitiveness and customer trust
Having an EPD certificate can have a positive impact on the company’s image and increase the competitiveness of products on the market.
-
Transparency and comparability
An EPD provides information that allows for a transparent comparison of the environmental impact of specific products at different stages of their life cycle.
-
Success in public procurement
An Environmental Product Declaration increases your chances of winning tenders:
- abroad, e.g. Sweden, Norway, Germany;
- related to the construction or renovation of facilities financed from public funds;
- related to building certification, e.g. BREEAM, LEED.
-
Compliance and credibility
EPDs are prepared in accordance with ISO 14025 and EN 15804 standards. Documents prepared based on these standards enable the assessment of a product’s environmental impact, along with the potential minimization of negative impacts associated with the product’s production phase.
Why companies apply for an environmental declaration (EPD)
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is a voluntary document that provides detailed information about a product's environmental impact. Despite not being legally obligated, many companies choose to complete one to strengthen their brand image and increase their competitiveness and credibility in the market. With EPDs, companies can better communicate their commitment to environmental protection and meet the expectations of customers seeking eco-friendly solutions.
CREATING DECLARATIONS
What does the process of obtaining an EPD certificate look like with us?
-
Obtaining an EPD requires a detailed life-cycle analysis of the product, which includes assessing raw material consumption, energy consumption, and emissions. This process is complex and requires collaboration with environmental and certification experts. Once the analysis is complete, the data is thoroughly verified, ensuring its reliability and compliance with international standards.
-
1defining the scope:
defining the scope of products covered by the EPD, the system boundaries (i.e. the life cycle stages that will be taken into account) and the functional or declared unit;
-
2data collection:
presenting information on the consumption of raw materials and their transport to the production plant, energy use and pollutant emissions;
-
3verification:
conducting a verification audit of input and output data throughout the life cycle;
-
4Life Cycle Assessment (LCA):
conducting an analysis of the product's environmental impact throughout its life cycle using previously collected data;
-
5development of the EPD project:
After third-party verification (in accordance with point 9.4 of the ISO 14025 standard) and project acceptance, the final version of the environmental declaration with a certificate is issued.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) compliant with ISO 14025
The ISO 14025 standard defines the principles for developing Type III environmental declarations, which are based on a comprehensive product life cycle analysis and reliable environmental data. This document is an international standard that enables transparent and uniform comparisons of the environmental impact of different products. Thanks to ISO 14025, manufacturers can present information about the environmental impact of their products in a standardized format, increasing the trust of customers and business partners.
Developing EPD according to ISO 14025 for joinery, concrete or other products requires a life cycle analysis of the product, which allows for a precise determination of its environmental impact and enables comparison with other similar products.
Transparency and reliability of data in EPDs are crucial, which is why ISO 14025 requires that all information be thoroughly documented and available for verification by interested parties.
Verification and publication of EPDs according to ISO 14025
The independent verification process of an EPD involves a certified expert or certification body verifying the accuracy of the data and the documentation’s compliance with the requirements of the ISO 14025 standard. The verifier analyzes both the product’s life cycle assessment methodology and the completeness and reliability of the collected information. A positive assessment results in the declaration being approved for final publication in the appropriate register or on the manufacturer’s website.
Only certification bodies or experts with appropriate qualifications and experience in product life cycle assessment may verify environmental declaration. These entities must be independent of the product manufacturer and must have no financial interest in the outcome of the certification process. This approach guarantees objectivity and high quality of the assessment. Independence and impartiality are crucial to the verification process, which is essential for maintaining trust in environmental declarations.
